It is a beautiful (gelato) day in the city - it's warm and sunny, and quite antithesis of "June Gloom" (gelato) which we thought would push (gelato) into July this summer. July?! Hey, July is Ice Cream Month in the USA!
We're very fortunate to be able to celebrate the month-long occasion with dozens of independent and boutique ice creameries in the Bay Area. The flip side of the coin is it was difficult to pick only *two*. As with any scientific research, we had to narrow our criteria, so we decided on the Mission neighborhood...
Food TV has featured Bombay Ice Creamery's exotic ice cream flavors in the "Unwrapping Ice Cream" segment.
Sesame Seed, Chiku (also called sapodilla or sapota), Ginger (spicy!), Rose Cardamon, Falooda, Fig, Gulkand (rose petal) were among the choices. Oh, how to choose?
M went for the Falooda ice cream float made with two scoops of ice cream (he chose Chiku), basil seeds, rose noodles, milk, and rose syrup. Oh My!
K chose a scoop of almond pistachio saffron
On the way out, we spotted these elaborate grates on the sidewalk. Very Mission neighborhood!
Next stop, Humphry Slocombe.
Look at the line (which was even longer when we left). Notice the age range of the small crowd (more on this later). The shop only offers 10-12 flavors a day, and rotate often, but here, we're talking ice cream for the sophisticated palate...
Yup, I would wait in line over and over again for Humphry Slocombe. If you're not convinced, read this article :)

ReplyDeleteAn otherwise speechless Suji who had to make do with homemade raspberry sorbet today :)
Oooh, Suji, we love raspberry and we love sorbet even more!
ReplyDeleteDo you have a favorite place to go raspberry picking? We might have to tag along the next time you go :D
It was from the grocery store (wimpy sigh)...but it was yummy LOL :) Each time I see these ice cream photos of yours I'm sighing and trying not to drool. :) I am one who believes ice cream holds the cure to every worry in the world.
ReplyDeleteThe next time you're in the city, there will be a bowl of Humphry Slocombe ice cream of your choice waiting for you. Promise :)
